Meet the 2024-2025 OAS Executive Team
Onyii Eze
Co-President
4th Year, Public Policy & Leadership and Global Development Studies
Onyii is originally from Nigeria but currently resides in Northern Virginia. Her role as Co-President entails planning the OAS weekly agenda and leading executive board meetings and overseeing other executive members. She enforces the OAS Constitution and makes sure the overall purpose and goals of the organization are met. She also serves as a cultural representative of OAS and Africa in the community by coordinating, supporting, and planning programs. Additionally, she aids in applying for funding to further the education and understanding of issues concerning continental Africa and meeting with University administrators to discuss ways to improve the experience of minority students. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Onyii hopes to return to West Africa and work on international development policy for the State Department or an international NGO/consultancy. In her free time, Onyii enjoys music and film, reading, fashion, soccer, cooking, and traveling. A fun fact about her is that she grew up overseas!
Princess Olubuse-Omisore
Co-President
4th Year, Global Public Health major with a Psychology minor on the pre-med track
Princess is originally from Nigeria but currently resides in Northern Virginia. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Princess plans to obtain her Masters in Public Health and go on to Medical School with the aspiration of becoming a Physician. In her free time, Princess enjoys watching films, reading, music, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
Sonia Birate
Vice President
3rd Year, Computer Science major
Sonia is originally Democratic Republic of Congo and currently resides in Houston, Texas. Her role as Vice President entails developing relationships with other organizations on Grounds, serving as a liaison within the committees, and performing duties in the absence of both of the presidents. Besides assisting the presidents, she also works closely with the Community Service and Outreach Chair to foster the spirit of service and volunteer work within the African community at UVA, specifically through fundraisers, scholarships, and an annual project to give aid and support back to the motherland. Pursuing a Computer Science major within the college, she envisions a life post-graduation where she could embrace pure leisure without worries of employment but she also acknowledges that a position as a Software Engineer could help meet her needs. Additionally, Sonia enjoys going on walks, photography, music, art, fashion, and traveling in her spare time.
Ashandra Asamoah
Secretary
3rd Year, Global Security and Justice
Ashandra is originally from Ghana but currently resides in Northern Virginia. Her role as Secretary involves maintaining the general body member and alumni database engagement, sending out the monthly newsletters, and keeping the OAS’ alumni pages on the website, LinkedIn, and other media platforms updated. She is also responsible for making information on internships, jobs, and other academic/professional opportunities accessible to the wider African community at UVA. Ashandra’s plan after undergraduate school is to be determined. In her free time, Ashandra likes doing makeup and a fun fact about her is that she played lacrosse in high school.
Belcy Emerson
Communications Chair
2nd Year, Government major and African and African American Studies Minor
Belcy is originally from Liberia but grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Her role as Communications Chair entails developing and executing effective communication strategies that engage and inform the university about OAS events. She plays a pivotal role in curating compelling content and utilizing various social media platforms to showcase the diverse array of cultural, educational, and social events hosted by the organization. Through her work on the OAS’s social media platforms, she crafts a captivating online presence that attracts the university's diverse audience and encourages active participation in OAS events. After obtaining her undergraduate degree she plans to attend a graduate program and further her studies, and later work for a public policy consulting firm. In her free time, she enjoys trying new foods and taking nature walks.
Brittany Asare
Co-Treasurer
3rd Year, Global Public Health major and Data Science minor
Brittany is originally from Ghana but currently resides in NOVA. Her role as Treasurer includes making detailed budgets for events like Africa Day and Umoja Ball and allocating funds appropriately to maximize the success and impact of the event. She is also responsible for making sure these budgets are being followed, as well as monitoring and managing the cash flow of OAS. Additionally, she helps in planning and executing fundraising efforts brought forth by the Fundraising Chair. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she plans on getting her masters in public health. Outside of school, Brittany enjoys crocheting, doing makeup, and baking!
Stephanie Sylla
Co-Treasurer
4th Year, Commerce Major
Stephanie is originally from Guinea but currently resides in Woodbridge, Virginia. Her role as Co-Treasurer includes helping the Treasurer make detailed budgets for events like Africa Day and Umoja Ball, allocating funds appropriately to maximize the success and impact of the event. She is also responsible for making sure these budgets are being followed, as well as monitoring and managing the cash flow of OAS. Additionally, she helps in planning and executing fundraising efforts brought forth by the Fundraising Chair. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she plans to go into business consulting for a few years and then go to law school. Outside of school, she enjoys working out.
Oluwasayo Daniel

3rd Year, Global Public Health Major
Oluwasayo, often referred to as "Sayo," is originally from Nigeria. Currently, she resides in Freehold, NJ. In her role as the fundraising chair, her primary responsibility is to spearhead the efforts in garnering financial support for OAS events, notably the prestigious Umoja Ball and the culturally enriching Africa Day celebration. She is also responsible for completing fundraising forms, a critical step towards securing the necessary funds that contribute to the execution of these remarkable events. Additionally, she aids in ensuring that the vision of the events is brought to life flawlessly. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she plans on getting her masters in Public Health and going to medical school with hopes of becoming a physician. Sayo’s favorite thing is to pretend to be a YouTuber.
Nneoma Nosike
Co-Fundraising Chair
3rd Year, Computer Science major and African American (AAS) minor
Nneom is originally from Nigeria, but she currently resides in Fredericksburg, Virginia. As the Co-Fundraising chair, her primary responsibility is to help the Fundraising Chair in spearheading the efforts to garner financial support for OAS events, notably the prestigious Umoja Ball and the culturally enriching Africa Day celebration. She is also responsible for completing fundraising forms, a critical step towards securing the necessary funds that contribute to the execution of these remarkable events. Additionally, she aids in ensuring that the vision of the events is brought to life flawlessly. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, she hopes to work in IT Consulting/Cybersecurity. In her free time, she enjoys building Legos and solving puzzles.
Cassandra Opoku-Mensah
Events Coordinator/Creative Director of Africa Day
3rd Year, Commerce and African American major
Cassandra is originally from Ghana but currently resides in Stafford, Virginia. She serves as the current events coordinator and creative director for Africa Day. This entails organizing the logistics and creative vision for a multitude of projects. Some of these projects include various cultural workshops, Umoja ball, Africa Day, and so much more. She plays an important role in making sure that the African/black community is able to engage in various community-building activities while also exposing them to the beautiful cultures of Africa in some of the most creative and engaging ways. Outside of school, she enjoys spending time with her family and creating handmade clothes and jewelry.
Michelle Amoh
Co-Events Coordinator
3rd Year, Computer Science major
Michelle is originally from Ghana but currently resides in New York. Her role as co-events coordinator entails organizing large and smaller-scale OAS events alongside the events coordinators. She works alongside the rest of exec to plan Umoja ball and coordinate major aspects of Africa Day by establishing contacts with the surrounding African community & performers to engage them with OAS events. After receiving her undergraduate degree Michelle plans to become a software engineer or go into tech consulting or product management. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, playing volleyball, and doing hair. A fun fact about her is that she was born on a leap day so her birthday is February 29th.
Eyram Golo
Co-Historian
2nd Year, Biology major
Eyram is originally from Ghana but currently resides in Woodbridge, Virginia. In her role as Historian, she documents and exemplifies the work done by the Organization of African Students with her photography and videography. Her role also involves working to ensure all the technical details of OAS events are established. Her documentation is displayed and presented to the community to engage the African community at the University of Virginia. After college, she plans on going to graduate school and obtaining a healthcare-related degree. In her free time, Eyram likes to listen to music, watch shows, and go on walks.

Will is originally from Nigeria but currently resides in Chesapeake, Virginia. In his role as Co-Historian, he helps the Historian by documenting and exemplifying the work done by the Organization of African Students with his photography and videography. His role also involves working to ensure all the technical details of OAS events are established. His documentation is displayed and presented to the community to engage the African community at the University of Virginia. After college, he plans to enter an anesthesiologist assistant program accredited by a medical school. Will loves all types of music and enjoys basketball!
Ifedayo Ogunleye
Political and Cultural Chair
3rd Year, Politics and Government major
Ifedayo is originally from Nigeria and currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In her role as the Political and Cultural Chair, she crafts statements addressing concerns affecting African students not only within UVA but also on a broader scale, while actively cultivating awareness regarding the African continent on campus. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Ifedayo plans to go to law school and later on become a corporate lawyer. In her free time, she enjoys reading, all things fashion and beauty, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.

Phillip Bonsu

3rd Year, Global Public Health major and Data Science minor
Phillip is originally from Ghana, but his hometown is Ashburn, Virginia. As Community Service Chair and Director of Outreach, he finds, organizes, and offers OAS members volunteer opportunities and community service projects that appeal to their interests and fit within their areas of specialization and interests. These initiatives range from K-12 mentoring and college application prep to community volunteer work at nearby shelters and hospitals. In addition, Phillip's job as Director of Outreach entails linking Charlottesville community partners with OAS while organizing enjoyable social events and community gatherings that highlight African foods, cultures, and experiences. After obtaining his degree, Phillip aspires to go to Medical School or pursue a Masters in Public Health. Phillip enjoys running and wants to run a marathon by the end of the year.

Kelechi, also often referred to as “Kele” is originally from Nigeria, but her hometown is Buffalo, New York. As Co-Community Service Chair, she helps the Community Service Chair find, organize, and offer OAS members volunteer opportunities and community service projects that appeal to their interests and fit within their areas of specialization and interests. These initiatives range from K-12 mentoring and college application prep to community volunteer work at nearby shelters and hospitals. After undergraduate school, Kele plans on going to medical school. She likes to crochet and play tennis, and her favorite music genres are RnB, Soul, and Afrobeats.
Curtis Amenyah

2nd Year, Biology major with a minor in Data Analytics
Curtis is originally from Ghana but his hometown is Lorton, Virginia. His role as Social Chair focuses on fostering a strong sense of inclusivity and community among all members. He strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. This includes planning and executing exciting social events as well as spearheading the Big Sib Little Sib Program, which pairs underclassmen with underclassmen/transfer students to facilitate mentorship and networking opportunities. After receiving his undergraduate degree, Curtis plans on applying to and attending medical school. A fun fact about him is that he lived in Nigeria and Tanzania before moving to the US.

Fiyin is originally from Nigeria but she currently resides in Virginia Beach. Her role as Co-Social Chair focuses on helping the Social Chair foster a strong sense of inclusivity and community among all members. Alongside the Social Chair, she strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. This includes helping the Social Chair plan and execute exciting social events. They also spearhead the Big Sib Little Sib Program, which pairs underclassmen with underclassmen/transfer students to facilitate mentorship and networking opportunities. After receiving her undergraduate degree, Fiyin plans to work for a little bit and then retire into real estate. She enjoys cooking, baking, and going on walks in her free time. An Interesting fact about her is that she runs an on-grounds business, braiding hair and selling beaded jewelry!
